Guglhupf Winter Market was a Blast!

If you are ever in the Durham, NC area I highly recommend eating at the Guglhupf! http://www.guglhupf.com/  An amazing cafe/bakery that has a great layed-back atmosphere and great art on the walls.  The Guglhupf Winter market was last weekend and I had a blast! Above is a quick shot of my little booth before the days festivities unfolded. It is such a fun, tiny event but it packs a punch with entertainment!!
It was a cold morning setting up but we had heaters and coffee to keep us going!
I just LOVE Pam Gutlon. She is the owner of the Outsiders Art & Collectibles gallery that I sell thru in the Durham area. She is so much fun to hang out with! She has a great passion for unique folk art and celebrates not just art but the artist too. http://www.outsiders-art.com/

This guy blew my socks off! His talent with music and puppetry is Amazing!!!
 Tarish 'Jeghettothepuppetmaker' Pipkins.  http://www.wix.com/jeghetto/puppetmaker
You must check out his Utube videos too! This guy is pure talent and he is a sweetheart too!
The Bulltown Strutters were a hoot! Mardi Gras Dixie style with a twist of Christmas! Loved Them! You can check them out at their facebook page.
The crowd was totally into it.
This is the ever so talented Sandra Elliot - a painter/Int. decorator with an amazing cause! Please check her work and passion out at www.365at50.tumblr.com She is so much fun! A heart of gold and a fellow fabric freak!
My show neighbors Cassandra and Ryan with their booth full of fun earrings! Yes, you can wear gummy bears! really!!!! Check their shop out at www.iskabibbles.com I bought a mask she made and LOVE it. I forgot to take a pic and I will try to show it off later.
I really enjoyed the Eno Mountain Boys. These guys had a great folksy/blues with a Southern edge. They are young and up and coming! I think we will be hearing more from these guys - check them out at www.reverbnation.com/theenomountainboys.com
Well, the holidays are upon us - I hope everyone is getting into the festive spirit! Cheers

Blink! - It's December - Oh My...............

Working away as time ticks by at such a fast pace! I can hardly believe it is December already. I just love this new gal I am working on. She is about 30 inches tall and heavy! I stuffed her with raw cotton. She is demanding a tall hat and a proper coat. I may have to postpone her for a little while and work on some crazy flying fairies - I will be at the Winter Market in Durham, NC in a few weeks with a group from the Outsiders Art Gallery. Odd is good! Can't wait.
Happy December to all!

A Visit to the Notforgotten Farm....................

I was lucky enough to attend an open house at the amazing studio of Lori Brechlin of Notforgotten Farm. She is an amazing designer and artist that creates rug hooking designs, stitching designs and one-of-a-kind primitive folk art. I had to make sure my jaw stayed shut as I oooowed and awwwwed over this amazing wall full of her design samples!!!! Argh!!!! To die for! Please visit her shop at: http://farmhousenotforgotten.blogspot.com/  She is such an amazing and sweet woman!!

I fell in Love with her fuzzy welcoming crew! Pinocchio (the chocolate colored one) stole my heart for sure.

 Her shop/studio was pure magic!
Her shop porch was so prim and perfect!
I stepped inside and gasped! It was so welcoming, and full of amazing works and discoveries!

The Christmas tree was magical and she had these adorable mohair teddy bear heads - I wanted them all but had to be on my best behavior with my holiday budget but there was no way I could leave without the painting done by Lori below! I am a redhead and you don't see much primitive artwork representing red hair sooo - I HAD to have it! So yes, I say it is a portrait of me with my evil twin. (I don't really have a twin or a sister -tee hee) Oh- yes, I know - she paints too!!!!!! Lori Brechlin is amazing - rug hookin, stitching, dolls, folk art, painting - Yep - she does it all !!!!!
So go check out her amazing world at: http://farmhousenotforgotten.blogspot.com/ and her etsy shop at http://www.etsy.com/shop/notforgottenfarm

A Tribute as Fall Fades.......

My gorgeous sunflowers have all withered and died and my chickens are putting on their extra fluff. Egg production has slowed as we enter the shorter days. Sigh....... goodbye beloved Fall. Oh, Queen Winter , I feel your wicked frozen touch as you journey this way. Please be kind this season.

November has arrived..............

It is a busy month ahead - the Fiber Arts Show/Exhibit at the Barns of Rosehill in Berryville, VA and The Merry Makers Folk Art Show in Springfield, OH. I just pray for continued and quick recovery from the pneumonia that is currently crippling my lungs and energy. Alas, a nap is ahead. Fall Blessings to all!

Haunts of Halloween Past.............

Time seems to just flutter by at warp speed! Reflecting tonight on time, creative energy
and life balance. Hmmmmmm feeling way off balance. Everyday life, illness and children have drained me these last few weeks. I must find my center again and bring back time for more creating. For without it, my soul gets sick. This is my favorite time of year to create - visions of spooks, ghouls and various little devilish creatures abound in my thoughts. I must let them out!!

Tis The Season of The Witch...................

When witches go riding,
and black cats are seen,
the moon laughs and whispers,
‘tis near Halloween.

Finally Catching my Breath After the Country Living Fair

Wow!!!!! I am still exhausted from the Country Living Show last weekend in Columbus, Ohio. It was an amazing and successful show!!!! Thanks to all of you that visited my booth and showered me with wonderful compliments and a very special thank you to all that adopted my crazy creations. The show was a non-stop whirlwind of business!!!!! I barely had time to take any pictures, so pardon the lousy shots.
Yes, I am very camera shy but here I am (the tall redhead) with my awesome sister-in-law Sarah. I could not have done it without her! She is amazing. She was my anchor in times of all crazy thinking and stress ( about 98% of the show- tee hee) My other anchor was my beloved hubby that was on serious "daddy duty" for the last week. He did a great job keeping our little ones out of my hair and the muscle man behind my booth design/set up.

It was a cold and wet Friday morning but the weekend just got better and better from there. I learned many lessons in regards to booth set up. Lots of re-working for next time. Well, I am back to do what I love to do most - CREATE!!!!!! I have yet more new works underway and will be loading some works to my Etsy site soon. I have more exciting news to post later too- think Prims magazine Fall issue (hint, hint)! Cheers - Lurena

No Dear Smidge, This is not for you.........

One of my beloved cats (Smidge) is very interested in my little hat I just fashioned for one of my dolls. She is now begging me to make her one in a sassy pink with an ostrich plume and silk fringe. Oh, she is such a tart!

September Brings Fall Wishes.........

It is a cool, rainy, Fall like day today - my favorite! It has been a while since I have posted here in Blog land and the clock is ticking for the Country Living Fair. It is hard to believe that it's just a few weeks away. Yikes! I have been sewing feverishly and spending lots of time in my land of enchanted thoughts and characters. This angel is one of my favorite creations for the Country Living Fair.

She is wearing a warm Autumn color pallet - but I must admit it was hard parting with these wonderful vintage buttons I've had stashed away.

So, here is wishing you all a wonderful and magical start to the Fall season. I will try to post a few more sneak peeks before I pack it all up for the show! Cheers, Lurena
